About Jess McLoughlin, REMT

Jessica McLoughlin graduated from D’Arcy Lane School of Equine Massage Therapy in London, Ontario in 2003. After passing the board exams and becoming an active member of the International Federation of Registered Equine Massage Therapists, she completed a four-month internship — followed by an intensive one-year work term — at the Kentucky Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center (KESMARC) in Lexington — the world’s finest and most thorough equine rehabilitation facility. Over the years, KESMARC has worked miracles, helping many of the industry’s top equine athletes recover from serious and life-threatening injuries.

Inspired by her experiences in Kentucky, Jess returned to Nova Scotia as an enthusiastic advocate for equine rehabilitation. She established Atlantic Equine Massage in 2007, and is now the Maritimes’ only registered equine massage therapist, serving Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

“I have become acutely aware of the need for additional and non-invasive forms of equine therapy," Jess says, "and I’m passionate about offering this alternative to like-minded people who work with horses. Working alongside other veterinary professionals as part of a multi-disciplinary team, I enhance and augment current methods of equine care to create a more favorable prognosis.

"My mission is to promote and develop equine massage as a complementary treatment for a wide-range of equine injuries and illnesses. I am available to rehabilitate horses throughout Nova Scotia, PEI and New Brunswick.”

She describes herself as independent, but appreciates that many rehabilitation scenarios require a team approach. She's a serious animal lover, as should already be apparent, and likes to ask questions, as she's constantly trying to improve her skills and knowledge.

When she's not in a stable or around horses, Jess enjoys gardening, traveling, photography, and outdoors adventure. She's not really artistically-inclined, but wishes she was. One long-term goal is to open a equine rehab centre in the Maritimes.
