I'll be the first to admit it. On first blush, equine massage sounds like a luxury. But the truth is that equine massage is a vital therapy that can help horses lead more productive and pain-free lives. It should be in every equestrian's rehabilition tool kit.
It’s easy for a horse owner or rider to get aggravated when a horse balks or resists an activity it has performed easily in the past. But instead of losing your cool, it’s worthwhile to step back, and ask a few questions.
As we all know, horses have distinctive and fascinating personalities. When a horse balks, it could be because they’re having a bad day, or they just want to unseat their rider. But a more likely explanation is that your trusty equine companion is feeling some measure of pain or discomfort. Horses are athletes, and they suffer many the same pains that we do. Sometimes, the only way a horse can communicate is through dramatic actions that look and feel belligerent... until you dig a little deeper and discover that your trusty steed is suffering.
And that's where I come in. I'm a Registered Equine Massage Therapist who works with one goal in mind— to help horses return to full health with a minumum of fuss. Although in the human world, massage therapy is sometimes considered a form of pampering, therapeutic equine massage is really just an investment in health of our most cherished friends, our horses.
• Maintains and improves a horse's range of joint motion
• Aligns equine muscle, tendon and ligament fibers to enhance suppleness
and flexibility
• Corrects compensatory issues resulting from previous equine injuries
• Eliminates scar-tissue adhesion and muscle contractures
• Decreases a horse's inflammatory responses (reducing pain, and loss
of function)
• Stretches and realigns scar tissue, which often promotes healing
in new and old injuries
• Corrects asymmetries in a horse's muscle development
• Improves circulation throughout the body.
